Please note date and time change in visitation and funeral service to Tuesday and Wednesday.
Angus Jerome MacDonald, 80, passed away in St. Martha's Regional Hospital on Thursday, February 1st, 2024. Born in Antigonish on April 7th, 1943, he was the son of the late Duncan R. and Margaret (MacMaster) MacDonald. Angus spent all 80 of his years living at his family home in James River, which was always a popular gathering spot for cousins from near and far. Angus worked for CN Railway as an operator for over a decade before moving to the Postal Service in Antigonish to be closer to his family.
When he wasn’t working, watching sports or engaging with his community, Angus could be found toiling in his beloved garden, proudly harvesting potatoes, strawberries and rhubarb. Among his most cherished memories were trips to Montreal watching the Habs at the Montréal Forum, with his family.
He will be dearly missed by his wife of 58 years, Frances, his two children, Margie (Darrell MacDonald) and Kenny (Laureen) and his sister Chrisanne (Bert Kelm). Angus is also survived by his six grandchildren; Jessica (Cyrus MacLellan), Matthew, Kristen, Bria, Amanda, and Matthew. As well as his three great-grandchildren; Chance, Gage and Mia. He was predeceased by his parents and his infant sister Mary.
Angus' memory will be cherished by his community, family, friends, and all who knew him.
Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 pm on Tuesday, February 6th in MacIsaac Funeral Home, 61 Pleasant St., Antigonish. Funeral service will take place at 11 am Wednesday, February 7th in St. Joseph’s Church, St. Joseph’s, with Father Tom Stephan presiding. Burial in the parish cemetery at a later date.
Sincerest thanks to the staff at St. Martha’s, who have given Angus and his family incredible support and care over the years, with special thanks to the palliative care team.
