Jerome MacEachern

Obituary of Jerome Daniel MacEachern

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our husband, father, grandfather and brother Jerome MacEachern, of Maryvale on May 9, 2024 in St. Martha's Regional Hospital, Antigonish. Born on February 27, 1946, he was the eldest son of the late Joseph and Alice (Delaney) MacEachern of McArras Brook.

Always a hard worker, he started his working career in the woods cutting pulp for Rannie MacDougall. From there he went to Prince Rupert, BC where he worked for CN Rail for some time. When he returned home he worked in road construction with Colin R. MacDonald, Tide Water and Satellite Construction Companies. On December 1, 1971 he began working as a machine operator with the Department of Highways/Transportation from where he retired on May 31, 2003.

Jerome was a founding member of the 4-Valley's Fire Department, where he served his community as a volunteer firefighter, its first Deputy Chief and primary mechanic. Above all else, Jerome was in his glory when his children and grandchildren came to visit.

Jerome is survived by his wife of 52 years, Mary (MacPherson); daughters Tracy (Scott) Webb and their children Sydney, Spencer, Nicholas and Cameron of Tampa, FL; Gena (Steven) MacDonald of Arisaig; Daniel (Jennifer) MacEachern and their daughter, Dora, of Stanchel, PE. He is also survived by brothers John (Marion), McArras Brook and Clarence, North Grant; sisters Josie (John) MacEachern, Pleasant Valley; Mary Alice (late Brian) Gammon, New Glasgow; Hilda; Jeanette (late Donald) Crooks, Antigonish; and sister-in-law Bernadette MacEachern, Ohio.

Besides his parents, Jerome was predeceased by his sister Bernice (Steve) Fraser; brothers Phillip, Colin and Andrew in infancy.

In keeping with Jerome's wishes, cremation has taken place.

Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 pm on Tuesday, May 28th in MacIsaac Funeral Home, 61 Pleasant St. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 am on Wednesday, May 29th in St. Margaret of Scotland Church, Arisaig. Burial in the parish cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Alzheimers Society would be appreciated.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to the Palliative Care Unit team of St. Martha's Regional Hospital. They provided exceptional care, kindness and compassion at a time when needed the most.
