Obituary of Gwendolyn Chapin Harris
HARRIS (Robertson), Gwendolyn Chapin, R.N. passed away at the Sunrise of Erin Mills, Mississauga, September 1, 2016; in her 86th year.
Gwen was born in New Glasgow, NS. The daughter of James Chapin and Hilda Mary (Cutler) Robertson, both of Arichat, Cape Breton.
The beloved wife of the late Harold Randall Harris, Gwen was a proud graduate of the at the Royal Victoria Hospital Nursing Program in Montreal.
Over the years, Gwen and Harold were to reside on the West Island of Montreal, Ottawa, Mississauga, North Carolina, and London, ON.
Laughter, cards, entertaining tales, and great friends were always fixtures in Gwen's home. The fridge was always full. She drew her greatest delight and inspiration from her family. She was an active church member throughout her life, a much beloved Girl Guide leader, director of Meals on Wheels (Mississauga), and hospice volunteer (London).
Gwen is survived by her loving children, Anne, Gordon and his wife Julie, Scott and his partner Denise; her six grandchildren, Marc, Daniel, Krystal, Andrew, Kieran, Maddy; and great granddaughter Sophie, step granddaughter Amanda (Wayne), and step great granddaughters Sophia and Maisie. She is also survived by her sister Helen (Robertson) Butler, her niece Jane (Michael), great niece and nephew Kayleigh and Matthew; and by seven dearly beloved Harris nieces and nephews and their children.
A funeral service will be held 2:00 pm, Friday, September 9, 2016 in St Matthews’s United Church, Bayfield. Rev. Donna Lovelace presiding. Burial in the Parish Cemetery. Funeral directions is under the care of MacIsaac Funeral Home, Antigonish. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to St. Josephs Hospice, 485 Windermere Road, London, ON N6A 5M2.
