Obituary of Florence Ann MacDonald

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Florence Ann MacDonald announce her passing on June 5, 2024 at St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, Antigonish. 

Florence, affectionately known by her family and friends as “Fleecy”, was born in Antigonish, the third of six children of the late John Hugh and Mary C. (MacDonald) MacDonald of  Antigonish.

Florence worked many years as an employee with Nova Scotia Power and the Town of Antigonish. Growing up on Brookland Street gave her many fond memories of fun and escapades with her siblings and friends which continued into lifelong friendships.  She was an avid golfer and pickle ball player, enjoying many games of both with old and new friends. 

Florence leaves to mourn her siblings, John Allan; Mary C. “Keah” (Wendell) Schurman; Ron "Cash" (Carol Wilkie); Andrew, (late Brenda Wesley) Fredericton;  Donald "Ducky" (Betty Ann Arbuckle); as well as her nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, Wendy Schurman (Norm Peters), Ottawa; Bruce Schurman (Nicole MacGillivray) and their children Ryann and Jordyn; Colleen MacDonald, Fredericton; Rebecca (Brendan) Russell and their children Weston and Gavin, Fredericton; Lauren (Geoff Koots) and their son Hank, Whitehorse; Julie MacDonald (Lucas DeCoste) and their son Eli; and Evan MacDonald (Sarah Thompson), Halifax. 

Florence's family extends heartfelt thanks to the incredible doctors, nurses and staff of the John MacLellan Palliative Care Unit at St Martha’s Regional Hospital who provided exceptional care, kindness and support when it was needed most.

By Florence's wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service.  A celebration of life for family and friends will take place on Tuesday, July 23, 2024 from 4:00-6:00 pm, in the Royal Canadian Legion,  75 St Ninian St, Antigonish. Everyone is welcome!

Memorial donations may be made to The John MacLellan Palliative Care Unit c/o St. Martha’s Regional Hospital Foundation, Cathy's Place, The Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of choice.
