Obituary of Mary Adelia Mattie
Mattie, Mary Adelia, 85, of Monastery, passed away September 24, 2024 in St. Martha's Regional Hospital, Antigonish, after a courageous battle with pulmonary fibrosis. Born in Antigonish she was a daughter of the late Angus and Margaret (Fraser) Grace.
Mary was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Hardworking, protective, sociable, and giving were a few of her strong suits. Those who were fortunate enough to get to know her, at some point, would have received baked goods, preserves, and pop in visits, all of which she loved to do.
Mary loved family, her kids, grandkids, and great grandkids and were her #1 source of joy. Mary loved to prank and be pranked by family; she had a wonderful sense of humor, and it was completely infectious.
Mary worked a few different jobs in her life, but the one she devoted her career to was working as a caregiver for the Antigonish & Area Homemakers. She was recognized for 25 years of service in 2009. Mary enjoyed her work with the elderly and had a very natural way about her that made many long-lasting, joyous impressions upon the families that Mary worked with.
Mary’s lifelong love, Tom, passed away in January 2005. Mary and Tom were always inseparable and loved and enjoyed each other's company. The day she passed away happened to be their anniversary, so all know, they were back in each other's arms dancing and celebrating their love.
She is survived by her children, Angus (Valerie) Mattie Purlbrook; Gary (late Helen) Mattie, Monastery; Eleanor (Eugene) Decoste, Monastery; Danny (Darlene) Mattie, Monastery; Donnie (Willimena) Mattie, Monastery; Lorraine (Blair) Brymer, Manchester, Guysborough County; grandchildren; Michael, Brian, Malinda, Hayley, Luke, Jaylsa, Justine, Courtney, Tamara, Nicole, Lana, Kelsey, Breanne, Colin, and Trent; great grandchildren; Aria, Cade, Logan, Zoey, Lylah, Riley, Shae, Jaida, Piper, Raya, Blake, Hazel, Avery, Emersyn, and Jorja; brothers; Carl (Mary); Bernie; sisters Jean (late Bobby) Vacheresse; Anne; sister-in-law Theresa, as well as several nieces and nephews.
