Obituary of Edna Monson Rockwell

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Edna Rockwell, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, who left this world peacefully on September 26, 2024. Born in 1949, Edna lived a life full of love, laughter, and dedication to her family, community, and passion for nature.

A proud graduate of Cape Breton Business College, after moving to Antigonish Edna launched her career at the Antigonish Veterinary Clinic, where she devoted over 30 years of her life to ensuring the health and wellbeing of countless animals. Her kindness, professionalism, and unwavering spirit touched all who knew her, making a significant impact within the veterinary world and the community she cherished so deeply.

Edna and Don Rockwell celebrated a beautiful marriage of 51 years, brimming with shared adventures and endless support for one another. Together, they raised two wonderful sons, Richard and Dylan, who carry on her legacy of compassion and integrity. Edna found immense joy in her role as a grandmother, delighting in the lives of her four grandchildren: Ethan, Madeline, Regan, and Alice. Her warmth and wisdom will forever resonate in the hearts of those she loved.

Predeceased by her dear sister Janet Rowe, Edna is survived by her devoted husband Don, sons Richard (Arlene) and Dylan, her loving sister Margaret (Gerard) MacLeod, cousin Ted MacDonald, and niece Megret Yabsley, who all hold her memory close in their hearts.

A true nature and wildlife enthusiast, Edna found solace in the outdoors, often marveling at the beauty of the world around her. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed having many houseplants around her.  Her passion extended beyond her appreciation for nature; she actively supported cat rescue organizations, monarch butterfly rescue movement, advocating fiercely for the safety and wellbeing of all animals.

Edna Rockwell leaves behind an enduring legacy of kindness, generosity, and a love for life’s simple pleasures. As we remember her, let us carry forward her spirit of connection, compassion, and nurturing for both people and creatures alike. 

A celebration of Edna's life will be held on Oct 13, 2024, 5pm to 7pm, at The Keppoch lodge, where friends and family are encouraged to come together to honor and remember her.
