Hazel (Greencorn) Graves

Obituary of Hazel (Greencorn) Graves

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our mother Hazel Elizabeth Ann Greencorn (Graves) on September 30, 2024 at the R.K. MacDonald Nursing Home in Antigonish, NS. Mom was born on April 28th, 1937 in Wolfville, NS and adopted shortly thereafter by Bridget and James Jellow in Mulgrave, NS.

She was employed with Acadia Fisheries as a First Aid nurse. After meeting Edward Greencorn, they married and together raised their seven children. After spending several years in Mulgrave, they relocated to Half Island Cove where she spent many years employed at the Canso fish plant. She later worked as a PCW at the Hazel Hill Nursing Home where she retired.

Mom had a very compassionate nature when taking care of others. She was an excellent homemaker and loved cooking and baking, playing darts and bowling and many games of crib.

Hazel was predeceased by a son in infancy, her husband Edward Greencorn, and her 2nd husband Bernie Graves, adoptive parents Bridget and James Jellow, biological mother Dorothy Goss, great grandson Zachery Hendsbee and son-in-law Steve Meade. She leaves behind four daughters and three sons: Lorraine (Bill Pettipas) Vienneau; Madonna (John) Hendsbee; Bernice Meade; Gordon Greencorn;  Roberta (Clifford) Munroe; Terry (Lori) Greencorn;  Mitchell (Sherry) Greencornn; 12 grandchildren: Mark, Jessica, Garth, Chrissy, Charlie, Darcy, Deanna, Vanessa, Riley, Adrienne, Morgan, Stevie, Keegan, Daycen and 10 great grandchildren.

We would like to send a special thank you to the staff at the R.K. MacDonald Nursing home. Grandmama will be missed by the staff of the Cobblestone unit where she was taken care of with extra special love.

A celebration of life will be at a later date. Donations may be made in memory to the St. Vincent de Paul cemetery in Queensport or the R.K. MacDonald Nursing Home.
