Obituary of Stella Marie Kopf

Stella M. Kopf, of Antigonish and formerly of Pomquet, passed away on Oct. 2, 2016, in St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, surrounded by her family. The daughter of the late Joseph and Amelia (Boudreau) Durant, Stella was born in Pomquet on Jan. 23, 1939. She moved to Brooklyn NY when she was 17, married Robert W. Kopf Sr. and they moved back to Pomquet in 1968. Stella worked at the Moonlight Restaurant in Antigonish for 17yrs, then at the Bethany Motherhouse, Antigonish, for several years before retirement. However, always full of energy, Stella went back to work part-time as a cashier at WalMart-Antigonish for a few years. With retirement, she had lots of time to enjoy her grandchildren and her favourite past-times – bingo, scratch tickets & knitting. Stella is survived by her 4 children, Robert Jr., Peter (Debbie), Marie (Richie) White and Joan; 7 grandchildren, Giselle, Tyler, Kristen (Kyle) Glenn, Peter Jr., Lindsay, and Cody & Ashdon George; great-grandchildren, Brooklyn & Emma Glenn; sisters Theresa Rennie, Pomquet, Rita (Moses) Benoit, Pomquet; brothers William (Mary Ann), Pomquet, Jimmy (Marcelline), Pomquet; sisters-in-law, Leona Durant, Halifax, Yvonne Doiron, Pomquet, Martha Durant, Pomquet, and Yvonne Durant, Pomquet. Besides her parents, Stella was predeceased by her husband Robert Kopf Sr., her partner Gillis MacDougall, brothers Leo, Thomas, John, Charlie, Peter, Joseph and Lin; sisters-in-law Rita and Anita; brothers-in-law Raymond Rennie and Donald Kopf; daughter-in-law Maureen Feltmate; parents-in-law William (Popeye) & Rose Kopf; and 2 sisters in infancy. Funeral Mass will be held Friday, Oct. 7, at 11am in Ste. Croix Church, Pomquet, with Rev. Conrad Edwards presiding, with assistance from Rev. P.J. Baccardax and Deacon Art Riley. Burial to follow in the parish cemetery. A Celebration of Life will be held at The Pomquet Vol. Fire Hall from 7-11pm Saturday October 8, 2016.
