Finley Farrell

Obituary of Finley F. Farrell

Our hearts are heavy with the passing of our dear Papa, the kindest, most giving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. A man of deep faith, he has been welcomed into the arms of his saviour, at St. Martha's Regional Hospital, while surrounded by family who loved him deeply. Finley was born in Fairmont to Leo A. and Catherine (Chisholm) Farrell. He showed his athletic prowess on the rugby field, the hockey rink and the bowling lanes. Finley was a hard-working responsible man whose personality and diligence served him well at Home Bakery, Atlantic Lotto, Keltic Motors and local furniture businesses. Finley was active in politics both federally and provincially, volunteering on elections since the 1950's. He was a political junkie, reading all he could on global and national affairs. Finley was most happy surrounded by his family at the cottage at the Cove. He spent 62 beautiful years of marriage with Margie and they were an awesome example of love and commitment. He and his bride worked side by side in business,, travelled together, and raised a family that admired their example of true love and devotion. Finley was an active member of the Knights of Columbus, a volunteer with St. Vincent de Paul, a lector at St. Ninian's Cathedral for more than 40 years, and he and Margie were team leaders with Worldwide Marriage Encounter for several years. Finley is survived by his wife Margaret (MacDonald), children David (Darlene), Kathleen (Michael Lynch), Trish (Mike Hassin), Dan, Michael (Sarah), Laureen (Paul Boyd) and Sean (Anna). Papa lives on in the hearts of his grandchildren Brianne and Grant Farrell, Kelsey, Hayley, and Shannon Lynch, Leah and Tara Hassin, Sean and Cory Farrell, Kevin (Samantha), Joseph, Jenna, and Kennedy Farrell, Kaylyn, Laura and Myrie Boyd, Kasia, Erica, and Connor Farrell, and special friend Diane MacIntyre. Finley is also survived by sisters Josephine Kraftchic, Leola Farrell and Gloria Delaney, brother in law Donald Hall, sister in law Catherine MacDonald and numerous nieces and nephews from the Farrell, Sanford, Hall, Delaney and MacDonald families. Finley was pre-deceased by sons Kevin and Joseph (in infancy), his brother Archibald, sisters Cecelia Sanford and Delores Hall, brothers in law Bronis Kraftchic, James Sanford, Doug Delaney and Lawrence MacDonald.
