Alberta Izzard

Obituary of Alberta Marie Izzard

Alberta Marie (Williams) Izzard, 69, Monastery passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, May 10, 2020 with her loving family by her side, following her courageous battle with cancer.

Alberta (Bert) was a retired Licensed Practical Nurse and worked at St. Martha’s Regional Hospital and Bethany for 43 years. Her compassion for others, her quick wit and her beautiful smile that lit up a room, built so many life long friendships with her colleagues who became her work “family”. Her many friendships also extended into her community where she was always known for going above and beyond for those fortunate to be in her circle. Her and her long time friend from nursing school  (Judy Durdle Greene) could often be found sharing stories of the fun and adventures that they shared over the years.

She is survived by her son D’Arcy (Gina), Truro, grandchildren Clayton, Taylor, Bayfield and Jordanna, Ontario, step grandchildren Kaleb (Jill), Truro; Eshaan (Emma), Truro; Sisters Evelyn Girard, Monastery;  Ada Hearn (Jim) Ontario; Brothers James Ash, Antigonish, Kevin MacDougal (Mandy) Monastery, Bobby Joshua, Ontario. She was predeceased by adopted parents Patrick and Rebecca Ash, Monastery; father Ivan Williams, Sydney; mother Mary MacKinnon, North Sydney; brothers Leonard and Charles Ash; sisters Edna Williams, Dorothy Day, Sarah Irving.

We would like to say a special thank you to Dr. Phillip Cooper for the exceptional care that he gave Alberta and ensuring she had her favourite hymn “Be Not Afraid” sang to her, to Heather Brander (whom Alberta adored)  to the Palliative Care Team and to the VON for their care, love and support to keep Alberta home with her family.

Due to Covid 19 funeral arrangements will be made at a later date. Donations may be made to the St. Martha’s Regional Hospital Foundation, the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of choice. Online condolences can be made at www.MacIsaacs.ca
