Jackie volunteered with the St Martha's Palliative and Cancer Care Services for many years. He sat with people while family members took breaks, he did overnight companion visits, he visited the Veterans unit and he would drive people to appointments. Jackie was a bright breath of fresh air. Everyone loved and respected him. He was selfless in giving and would never accept reinbursement of any kind. He enjoyed a great cup of tea and kept our volunteer meetings lively. What a whit. His presence will be missed but his memory will live on. Condolences to his wonderful family. -Debbie Horne

Dear MacIntyre Family
I want to send you all my deepest condolences. It is hard to imagine a time there wasn't a Greening at the MacIntyre household or vice versa. It seems like our families were inextricably linked through our relationships my sisters and I had with all of the family. I spent my childhood with Pat and like most young brothers (and friends) we chased around Keith and Jim hoping to be lucky enough to be included. All of the other older siblings would always be coming and going as as there was a pile of them. My mother would often comment, having 5 children of her own, that only Jackie and Lynn were crazier.
I just want to say "thank you" Jackie for accepting me and opening up your home and family to me.
Rest Peacefully!
Linde Greening

Our sincere condolences on the death of your Dad, I met Jack when he started as a Palliative Care Volunteer at the hospital. He would come anytime that you needed him. He was so respectful to these patients at this most vulnerable time in their lives, and provided lots of attention and company for those, whose family were not able to be in attendance. He was a wonderful man and he was deeply missed at the hospital when he announced his retirement. You and your families will deeply miss him but his memory will live on in your hearts. Will keep you all in our thoughts and prayers.

Dear family of “Jack the Candy Man”
Growing up as a child in Country Harbour I looked forward to the days when a man, who came from Antigonish, would deliver goods to a small store beside our house.
He was always so kind to me .I was probably only about 8-10 years old and he treated me with candy which he had in the small station wagon he drove. I used to watch for his arrival to the store and always managed to show up when he came there.
I fondly called him “Jack the Candy man”.
Many years later as I grew older I would see him in Antigonish and continued to call him “Jack the candy man”. He would have a smile for me when I called him that name.
I never forgot how kind he was . 55 years have passed since then .I never knew his full name but when I saw this obituary I recognized this man as my long ago friend .
Rest In Peace “Jack the candy man“ ,you made a little girl very happy with your kindness.
I will never forget you.
My sincere sympathy to you all in your great loss.

The MacIntyre and the Smith families go back to the late 60's.
Jack was indeed "one of a kind" . From the view from our home on the Heights there was a constant stream of traffic back and forth. Antics scrummages were plenty but all were worked out and loyalty and true friendship remained.
With Jack, Lynn and family we skied, bake, borrowed and generally depended on each other.
Cyril and I will never forget the purchase of the Lada, a ? Russian-built vehicle, smaller that a VW Beetle.
As we remember, we think they tried to put the entire family of 12 in it to go to Cape Breton on a vacation.
So many laughs and so many incidents. We have fondest memories of the entire family - so our condolences go out to all of you young MacIntyres and Lynn as well, who cared about Jack until the end.
Our thoughts and best wishes to all. Rest in Peace,Jack
Cyril and Doreen

Deepest condolences to the family.
I was a Brookland St kid who waited on Saturday mornings for “Jackie the Candy Man” to walk down the street. I would call to him “Jackie the Candy Man, can I come down now”. He would always say, “ask your mother when it is after 9”. Then to the Wholesalers we would go to get our treat from the dish by his desk. Never forgot his kindness and whenever I saw him when I would go back to Antigonish, I said “hello Jackie the Candy Man” and he always got a kick out of it.
Thought you might like to know this about a man I always respected.

What a true honor it was for me to have gained the respect of Jack MacIntyre. I loved listening to his stories from the past and, for some reason, he seemed to like listening to mine. He must have been one of the great citizens of the growing town of Antigonish in the 50's, 60's and 70's. Although he had very little filter at times he was one of the most repectful men I have known. I once played golf with him when he was probably at least 70 and had not played in many years. In his own way he made me realize that I should just give up golf. I am so glad my kids are old enough to have known him well and can brag about him being their "Grampa Jack" and so happy that I was once part of his family. I'll miss " The Candyman ".

Jack I will miss you so much, you were my first and only father in law and I am so lucky to have spent some time together. Two of my fondest memories was spending time with you in Pompquet in some sea kayaks and spending 3 hours chatting and observing the beauty of the ocean on a nice summer day. I also loved the walks along the ocean where you could find sand dollars that I could not see. You and Lynn raised awesome children who I not only consider family but great friends.
