With profound sadness we announce the passing of Donald "Donnie" Joseph MacEachern in the early morning of Dec 11, 2021. Born April 9, 1945 in Antigonish, Nova Scotia, Donald was a son of the late Gill and Mary (Barry) MacEachern.
He grew up in Antigonish with many youthful summers at Mabou Harbour. He was a proud Ironworker, "I loved being an Ironworker" and his career took him to all parts of Canada. Eventually establishing his home in Livingstones Cove as his happy place where he hosted his many visitors.
His love of cars, especially older models, and motorcycles was well known. This fondness took him to many racetracks, antique car shows and motorcycle gatherings. He refurbished many vehicles which he picked up at locations across North America.
Donald is survived by his brothers Alexander (Evelyn), Monastery, John and sister Doreen (Sandy) Smith, Antigonish, partner Theresa Gillis and a number of nephews, nieces, grandnephews and grandnieces. He was predeceased by sister Ann, in infancy.
His lifelong struggle with Bronchiectasis did not deter his efforts with all his interests. Never complaining, charging ahead with smiles, jokes and repartee with all.
The family would like to thank the Palliative Care team of Dr. MacKenzie, nurses Heather and Valerie; VON nurse Tracey and family physician, Dr. Eckhart. Also, for his latest illness, the Oncology Units at the QEII and Sydney Hospitals. Thank you also to his partner Theresa for the care given over the last year and the support of long time friends Gary MacKenna, Mike Novak and many neighbours.
