Annie MacPherson

Obituary of Annie Catherine MacPherson

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear mom and nanny, Annie Catherine (Armsworthy) MacPherson, age 98, on Monday, February 19, 2024, in the R.K. MacDonald Nursing Home, with family members by her side. Annie was the daughter of the late James and Dorothy (Billard) Armsworthy. She grew up in Guysborough where  she met her beloved husband, Jim. Over the years, she worked with Jim in logging camps and later settled on the family dairy farm in North Grant, Antigonish County, where their children Jerome, Donnie, and Patsy were raised. After retirement, they settled across from the farm and continued to make many happy memories with the family they created.

Annie’s door was always open and she was there to welcome family and friends with a cup of tea and a lunch to go with it. She loved to get out of town for shopping trips with her girls. Annie had a love of flowers and plants and had quite the green thumb, as was evident by her beautiful gardens. She was a renowned baker who enjoyed nothing more than then sharing the fruits of her labour with family and friends.  She was well-known for her baking, preserves, and quilts at many local craft and bake sales. She was a founding member of the Antigonish Farmers' Market and always spoke fondly of the friends she made there over the years. She was a devout catholic and a lifetime member of the Catholic Women’s League.

Annie is survived by her daughter, Patsy (Hugh Dan) MacEachern and daughters-in-law, Linda and Joan, her grandchildren, Cheryl, Jerry, Cathy, Jamie, Lonny, Alison, Gena, James, Tommy, Marlene and Mary Anne, their significant others, and many great and great great grandchildren. She was predeceased by husband, Jim, and sons, Jerome and Donnie, brothers Ted, Buster, Charlie, Douglas and sisters Mabel, Joyce and Barb.

Please join her family in celebrating Annie’s life. Visitation will be held Thursday, February 22, 2024 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm and from 6:00 to 8:00 pm in MacIsaac Funeral Home, 61 Pleasant Street, Antigonish.  A funeral mass will be celebrated in St. Ninian’s Cathedral in Antigonish on Friday, February 23, 2024 at 11:00 am with Reverend Danny MacLennan presiding. Burial at a later date in St. Ninian's Cemetery.

Annie’s family would like express sincere thanks to all those who cared for her. In particular, the R.K. MacDonald Nursing Home staff, who provided kindness, dignity, and exceptional care for her over the past eight years.
