Obituary of Oonagh O'Rourke Grady

Oonagh passed away peacefully, with family by her side, in Arborstone Enhanced Care, Halifax, on August 28, 2024.

Oonagh was born on May 24, 1950 in Carstairs, Alberta to the late Dr. Charles and Barbara (Mort) O'Rourke. At a very young age, the family moved to Mulgrave, and then Antigonish. Oonagh attended Morrison School followed by Antigonish High School. She then attended St. Francis Xavier University, graduating with her Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Education in 1974. Oonagh's teaching career began in Bolyston then Havre Boucher, Edmonton, Yellowknife, Toronto and South Indian Lake, Manitoba. Oonagh married Bill Grady in 1993 and settled in Kentville.

Oonagh's final home for the past nine years was at Arborstone Enhanced Care in Halifax. With all her challenges, Oonagh found love and laughter with the extensive staff, who became like family. She enjoyed her daily walks with her many care providers. At a younger age, Oonagh loved fashion and taking her nieces and nephews to the playground, tennis court or to see the horses, always followed by a treat. She will be missed by family and friends.

Oonagh is survived by brother Oliver (late Margaret), Dartmouth; sisters Magdalen, Halifax; Barbara (Paul) Phillips, Antigonish; Lelia (Frank) Machnik, Summerside; and Mary (Allister) McCarron, St. Andrews; sisters-in-law Janet (MacIntosh) O'Rourke, Fall River; Judith O'Rourke, Alymer, PQ; brother-in-law Paul White, Alymer, PQ; many nieces and nephews, grand nieces and nephews as well as cousins in England, and some close friends.

Oonagh was predeceased by her parents, Dr. Charles and Barbara (Mort) O'Rourke; husband Bill Grady; brothers Antony (Joan), Charles; Bernie; one sister Natalie O'Rourke White; and nephew Shaun McCarron.

We would like to thank the staff of Arborstone Enhanced Care for their compassion, care, dignity and love shown towards Oonagh throughout the years. We, as a family, are so grateful for her care.
