Jacob (MacDonald) AlAwashez

Obituary of Jacob Gregory David (MacDonald) AlAwashez

Son, brother, grandson, friend

Jacob AlAwashez,19, of Antigonish, passed away September 24th in Antigonish.

Jacob was born in Antigonish, Nova Scotia, on May 13, 2005 and spent his early youth participating in school band, air cadets, basketball and volunteering within the community. In 2019, he moved to Sharjah, UAE, where he completed his high school education while participating in school groups, such as astrophysics, taking mixed martial arts, and volunteering within his school community. He loved taking cooking classes, and spending time playing with his siblings (and even the younger siblings of his friends often claimed him as their own, as he always had a special ability to bring joy to children). Jacob appreciated taking long drives. He enjoyed planning gaming experiences, such as Dungeons And Dragons, and aspired to create his own video game experience.

No matter where he lived, Jacob’s friends, teachers and acquaintances have always described him as an introspective, thoughtful and kind young man. His ability to listen and offer support made him a trusted friend and confidant. In his graduation yearbook submission Jacob wrote “You don’t know everyone you pass down a hall or the street, but sending a smile spreads positivity to all.” Although he himself struggled with his own mental health, his genuine heart, compassion and caring nature always shone through.

Jacob is survived by his parents, Natasha and Abdulrahim AlAwashez and Timothy MacDonald; his siblings Alex and Madison (MacDonald), Jasmine and Amaar (AlAwashez); his grandparents, Donalda Kelly, Graham Hines, Donna Mailman and Rodger MacDonald; his great grandmother Helen Hines; his aunts and uncles, great aunts and great uncles, and many, many cousins.

He is preceded in death by his loving cousin Amber Steylen.

Jacob will always be remembered by those who knew him as a kind, loving and genuine young man. Words will never be able to express how much he will be missed by those who loved him.

Burial will take place in the Muslim cemetery in Truro as soon as he is released. A memorial service will take place in MacIsaac Funeral Home on Saturday, October 19th from 1-5pm.
