Dear Darryl, Laura, Colin, and Darlene's family and friends,
I was so terribly sorry to hear of your loss. I had the privilege of working with Darlene when Ria and I came to work as occupational therapists at St Martha's in the 1980's. It was like joining a family and Darlene made us feel so very welcome.
I remember her warmth, kindness and most of all our shared sense of humour. We shared many laughs together. She supported us from the very start through her quiet, gentle and thoughtful approach. We were lucky to have her help guide us and her patients were so fortunate to have such a warm hearted and skilled physiotherapist care for them as well.
Darlene was the kind of person who makes the world a better place and I will always remember her with much love and affection. My heart and prayers go to Darlene's family and friends who must be missing her so much.
All my love Jo (Adams) St Martha's Rehabilitation Services 1990

There are no words to express the shock and heartbreaking sadness that followed at the word of Darlene's sudden death. All of her St Martha's Community has been touched over the years by her presence, her kindness, her professionalism, her compassion for others, her patience, her caring approach and of course that beautiful smile that she greeted you with every day. Many of us have had the privilege to work with Darlene for decades. She had, and displayed so much respect for her patients and their families, always giving little tidbits of advice, to make recovery go smoother, that they grabbed with earnest, respect to her direct co-workers in the rehab department, whom she shared her knowledge with freely, and to her other St. Martha's' colleagues, whom she worked so closely with, guiding them into the total care of the patient. Her quiet approach was so welcomed and never a harsh word expressed.
She was truly a gem of a women to have known, and she displayed the same kindness each and every day. She will be so missed.
To the Murrant and MacDonald families, she was yours, and my sincere sympathies as you struggle to make some sense of this tremendous loss of Darlene in your lives. I will have prayers for you all as you attempt to navigate through these dark and saddest of days. She will be in your hearts forever and your beautiful memories with help as you grieve her loss.
Rest easy Darlene!

Darryl, Laura, Colin and families,
While we didn’t get a chance to see much of each other over the time and distance, Darlene has been such a grounded presence in my life. My heart is breaking knowing that her passing happened so quickly and suddenly without chances for goodbyes. She was an “old soul” as she described herself. She did our profession proud and I know she made such a difference in the lives of many. I also know you will miss her deeply. She’s with us all in the memories we hold of her. Pat and I hold you in our hearts. Her memory is a blessing. Our sincere sympathies.

I have no idea what to say..... in the 80's, had her as a physio student ...it took me about 10 minutes to know that that had the "art" of heath care...another 5 minutes that she had it all...she had the rare combination of empathy and wit..and could read a patients needs like no other.....and I loved the latter..... when ever I bumped into her ...it was fun..she was quiet , and you were met with her beautiful impish smile...and I knew there was a good one liner on the way.... a beautiful smile , always lit up when I asked about her kids ...as she should...I am extremely sad.... what an absolute gem she was....I feel so empty

I am saddened and heartbroken. Darlene was an “original” of the Rehab team at St Martha’s and I am so fortunate to have had the privilege to work with her for twenty eight years. At work she always had a professional quiet demeanour and was always willing and able to provide me with clinical guidance when I was the “newbie” on the team. Lunch time or when out with the group was all laughs when she came up with those quick short witty comments or funny stories from her past experiences. I will miss her dearly as a coworker and a friend.
Please accept my condolences Darryl, Laura (Kyle), Colin and the MacDonald families - May your cherished memories of Darlene/mother give you peace, courage and strength in these difficult times.

Dear Darryl and all your family,
The loss of Darlene to you, your children, grandchildren, her Dad, her siblings and yours is enormous. To our hospital community and in particular her colleagues in our rehab department it’s a heartbreaking loss. Her quiet gentle manner was appreciated by all of us and for certain by the patients and families she touched with her competent and compassionate care. When I reflect on my own experience of her I am reminded of the respect I experienced from her, I felt her gentle caring concern many days. As word of her death reached members of our hospital community there was such tremendous sadness and shock.
We are concerned about your family and we do care, Please be assured of my prayers as you grieve the loss of someone you loved so much
